Dr. Fendrich received his Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin in 1985 and a post-doctoral M.S. in Biostatistics from Columbia University in 1987. He has been on the faculty of UIC since 1991. He has taught courses in research methodology during this time period and has served on and chaired the UIC behavioral IRB (Board #2). His research explores high risk behavior such as crime and delinquency, drug abuse, and suicide. His most recent research has focused on the epidemiology of substance abuse, with particular attention to issues related to the measurement and the assessment of risk factors, correlates, and consequences of substance abuse in the community. His work also explores the utility of drug testing in research and treatment contexts. As a research methodologist, he actively collaborates with other principal investigators and departments at UIC and at other Universities. His work has been supported by the National Institute on Drug Abuse, the National Institute of Mental Health, the National Institute of Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, the Center for Substance Abuse Treatment and the National Institute of Justice.
