ABOUT THE UNIVERSITY

The University of Illinois at Chicago is one of three main campuses of the University of Illinois. The medical college in Chicago is the flagship program in the state and is the largest training program for physicians in the country. The UIC campus is divided into two parts, the arts and science campus and the health sciences campus, which is the westernmost portion of the university community.

UIC is one of ten national university medical centers with an all-health college (including the areas of public health, medicine, nursing, dentistry, pharmacy, and allied health). Because UIC is a major teaching and research facility, a wealth of resources is available to neuropsychology residents and the university community as a whole.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT OF PSYCHIATRY

The Department of Psychiatry presently employs over 400 faculty and staff members. The faculty contributes to the mission of the Department in the areas of research, education and training, and clinical service. The Department of Psychiatry has successfully competed for major externally funded research grants and consistently receives either the highest or second highest level of externally funded research on the UIC campus. The faculty's research is nationally recognized and includes interest areas such as neuroscience and neuroimaging, the longitudinal course and outcome of patients with schizophrenia, affective disorders, and other major mental illnesses, research on women and gender, research on the assessment and training of parenting skills in mentally ill parents facing child custody disputes, research on workplace harassment, and research on patterns of psychiatric service utilization and outcome.
