PROFESSOR OF CLINICAL PSYCHIATRY

Dr. Caserta is board certified in Adult Psychiatry as well as Geriatric Psychiatry and is Medical Director of Inpatient Psychiatry as well as the Associate Head for Clinical services. She received her PhD from Cornell University Graduate School of Medical Sciences and her MD from the Medical College of PA and completed her Psychiatry residency at John Hopkins Hospital . She also did research fellowships at the NIH and in Lausanne, Switzerland. Her research interests have included developing animal models of neuropsychiatric disorders and using quantitative imaging techniques to aid in the early diagnosis of dementing illnesses, primarily Alzheimer’s Disease. She had a Career Development Award in Geriatric Mental Health from the NIMH. She has received numerous other awards for her teaching and mentoring of medical students and Psychiatry residents at Northwestern University and the University of Chicago, where she was on faculty prior to joining UIC.

Interests:
Neuropsychiatric disorders in the elderly; Mood disorders in mid and late life ; teaching and mentoring of junior faculty, Psychiatry residents and medical students.
