Administration
Director, Michael Naylor, M.D
 |
Michael Naylor, M.D., is a board-certified in child and adolescent
psychiatrist. In addition he is board
certified in general psychiary and sleep disorders medicine.
He is an Associate Professor of Psychiatry at the University of
Illinois at Chicago School of Medicine where he is the director of
the
Division of Child and Adolescent
Psychiatry, director of Behavioral Health and Welfare Program and
the Director of the Clinical Services Psychopharmacology Program.
Along with 3 other board certified child and adolescent
psychiatrists, Dr. Naylor provides and independent review of all
psychotropic medication consent requests for state wards.
In addition, he conducts training sessions on psychotropic
medications and the consent procedures for foster parents, post
adoption workers, residential childcare workers, DCFS caseworkers
and DCFS Authorized Agents.
Dr. Naylor earned his medical degree from the University of North
Dakota School of Medicine. He
completed his general psychiatry residency, his child and adolescent
psychiatry fellowship, and his sleep disorders fellowship at the
University Michigan School of Medicine.

Deputy Director Guardian and Adovocacy-D. Jean Ortega Piron, J.D

|
D. Jean Ortega-Piron, J.D. is the Deputy Director of the Office of
the Guardian and Advocacy. Since 1996, Ms. Ortega-Piron has been the
guardian for all children and adolescents made wards of the state by
the Juvenile Court. Between 1994 and 1996, Ms. Ortega-Piron worked
for then Governor Edgar in his Office of Special Counsel for Child
Welfare Services. There she
focused on the development of innovative public/private
relationships with the state's child welfare system to improve the
provision of services. In
addition, she participated in all policy discussions, analyses and
initiatives related to Juvenile Court reform. She has served as the
DCFS Chief Administrator of the Appeals and Hearings Unit. Prior to
that, she worked as chief legal counsel for the Illinois Department
of Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities. Ms. Oretega-Piron
attended

Theresa Matthews, LCSW

Ms. Matthews possesses a wealth of varied and valuable professional child welfare experience totaling more than 20 years. She has served as a Department of Children and Family Services Child Welfare Specialist, Child Welfare Supervisor, Child Protection Investigator and Public Service Administrator. She is currently a Senior Public Service Administrator in the Division of Guardian and Advocacy where she manages the Statewide Consent and Immigration Units. Previously, she served as a Prevention Coordinator for the Human Resources Development Institute.
Ms. Matthews is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and holds a Master's degree in Social Service Administration from the University of Chicago and a Bachelor's degree in Psychology from Augustana College, Rock Island, IL. Matthews received the DCFS Dale Rowell Fellowship in 1995 in recognition of her superior performance as a Child Protection Supervisor. She is married with 6 children and an active member of New Faith Baptist Church in Matteson, IL, serving in the Children’s Ministry. |
Alice Gutierrez-Gottschalk, RN

Alice Gutierrez-Gottschalk RN,
BSN is the Assistant Director for the Clinical
Services in Psychopharmacology Program.
Ms. Gutierrez-Gottschalk is in charge of the
daily operations of the Consultation Team, assessing
data related to medication consent requests,
preparing consultation reports for the child
psychiatric consultants, and relaying their
recommendations back to the DCFS authorized agents.
In addition she coordinates all aspects of
the operating system including productivity reports,
research projects and all special projects related
to the consultation data. She trains DCFS Authorized
Agents and caseworkers, foster parents, and
childcare workers in residential settings on the
administration and monitoring of psychotropic
medications.
She has 21 years of experience in Child and
Adolescent Psychiatric Nursing.

Christine Davidson, Director of Applied Services Research

Christine Davidson,
Ph.D., M.M., is a faculty member in the Department
of Psychiatry at the
University
of
Illinois
at
Chicago,
where she is the Director of the Applied Services
Research and Evaluation Program in the Behavioral
Health and Welfare Program. Since 1997 Dr. Davidson
has provided clinical and program consultation and
technical assistance to the Illinois Department of
Children and Family Services and its statewide
network of private agencies, focusing on residential
treatment and mental health services, outcome-based
program evaluation, performance improvement, and the
use of information systems as program management
tools. Current projects include an outcome
evaluation study of a specialized treatment program
at UIC that serves DCFS wards with histories of
multiple hospitalizations and placement moves. Dr.
Davidson, a clinical psychologist with a master’s
degree in health service management, has
clinical/administrative experience in medical and
psychiatric hospitals, and was formerly a faculty
member in the departments of psychiatry at both
Northwestern
University
and the
University
of
California
at
Davis. |
Consultation Team
Sucheta Connolly, MD

|
Dr. Connolly is board certified in Psychiatry and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. Dr. Connolly earned her M.D. at Washington University in St. Louis, completed her residency in Psychiatry at University of Illinois at Chicago, and completed her fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at University of Chicago. Dr. Connolly has been a member of the clinical and teaching faculty at UIC since 1992. She has also worked extensively with community mental health agencies and school districts throughout Chicago and the suburbs. Dr. Connolly is chief editor of a curriculum for mental health providers throughout Illinois in partnership with the Department of Human Services.
Dr. Connolly has been recognized as a regional expert in child and adolescent anxiety disorders and
directs the UIC Pediatric Stress and Anxiety
Disorders Clinic. Dr. Connolly is the
principal author of the Practice Parameter for the
Assessment and Treatment of Children and Adolescents
with Anxiety Disorders for the American Academy of
Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. She has been featured in numerous national consumer publications including Child Magazine and Parents Magazine as well as on television news stations.

Karen Taylor-Crawford, MD

Karen Taylor-Crawford, M.D., is a Board Certified Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist, who has been in private practice, maintaining both inpatient and outpatient service since 1980. Since 2001 she has been Director of the School Age Disruptive Behavior Clinic and an
Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at the Institute for Juvenile Research, Department of Psychiatry, University of Illinois at Chicago. Since 2006, she has been the secretary for the National Medical Association’s Section of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health .
Dr. Taylor-Crawford is the former Chair of the Department of Psychiatry at Advocate Christ Hospital and Medical Center, in Oak Lawn, Illinois, overseeing both inpatient and intensive outpatient psychiatric programs for youth and adults. As the chairperson of Psychiatry at Advocate Christ Hospital for six years, Dr. Taylor-Crawford, lead the establishment of a Pediatric Consultation-Liaison program, Adolescent Partial Psychiatric Hospitalization Program, a specialized medical substance abuse detoxification unit, and training in Psychiatry across graduate medical specialty programs.
Dr. Taylor-Crawford is also a founding board member of CAAMHP,
the Community of African American Mental Health Providers, a multi-disciplinary group of mental health providers started in 2004 in response to the E2 CLUB tragedy in Chicago. At that time, there were few places individuals could turn to for support or information on the impact of violence and trauma in communities of color. CAAMHP seeks to:
- Be a forum for continuing education;
- Serve as a community resource and disseminate accurate evidence-based information about the impact of violence and trauma to parents, educators, adults, professionals and the media;
- Promote ongoing research;
- Advocate on behalf of persons impacted, as stated in their articles of incorporation.

Sandra George, MSN

Sandra M. George RN, MSN, Staff Specialist in Nursing, brings 21 years of inpatient child and adolescent psychiatric nursing experience to the UIC Clinical Services in Psychopharmacology team. She triages consultation information and is a liaison to the UIC
board certified consultants
and adolescent child psychiatrists. She is responsible for the collection of data provided by DCFS authorized agents via telephone. She ensures that the systematic
data collection process provides pertinent information regarding the psychotropic consultation request and forwards this information to a
the Psychiatric consultant.
She reports
consultant's recommendations to the DCFS Authorized
Agent. Sandra provides education and instruction when needed to DCFS authorized agents regarding the psychotropic consultation process and assists the UIC Psychotropic Team, Project Coordinator with the collection of data for various reports. |
Research Team
Eraina Ross-Burleson, Supervisor

Eraina is the supervisor for the UIC
research assistants. Eraina is responsible for managing a team of six , overseeing the daily distribution, and completion of all medication requests. Eraina serves as the primary liason between UIC consultants and DCFS. She has twelve years experience working with foster children and DCFS. She communicates with doctors, nurses, case managers, and supervisors daily. She also assists with processing psychotropic medication requests when necessary. Eraina graduated
from Loyola University Chicago.

Punitha Jonadoss, Research Data Analyst-Inpatient

Punitha is a Research
Data Analyst for the UIC Psychotropic Consultation team. She is responsible for all Inpatient medication requests and acts as a primary contact person for hospital medication consent inquiries. When needed, Punitha assists with processing Outpatient medication requests. She also logs and maintains Inpatient request data. In the past, she assisted with data management/organization for an ADHD research study. Punitha graduated from Loyola University of Chicago.

Ishmael Jones, Research Data Analyst-Outpatient, Web Designer

Ishmael
has been a Research Data Analyst for the UIC Psychotropic Consultation Team
for two years. Although he is responsible for outpatient consent requests, he also is the
co-author of the CSP website. His past accomplishments are working to centralize consent process for the field, data organization for
the internal unit, and consultation on specialized projects as needed. Ishmael graduated from Western Illinois University.

Erin Pellett, Research Data Analyst-Outpatient

Erin Pellett is a Research
Data Analyst for the UIC Psychotropic Medication team. She processes outpatient medication requests, fills in for inpatient medication requests;
and manages outpatient data when needed. Erin has previous experience working with adolescents in chemical dependency and mental health treatment facilities. She graduated from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities.

Lorena Silva, Researc Data Analyst

Lorena Silva is a Research
Data Analyst for the UIC Psychotropic Consultation Team and
is responsible for outpatient consent requests.
Prior to joining the CPS, Lorena worked closely with the DCFS Psychotropic Consultation Team in generating a
quarterly report on the DCFS Centralized Psychopharmacology Consultation Program. Lorena graduated from the University of Illinois at Chicago.

Amber Thompson, Research Data Analyst

Amber is the Research Data Analyst for the DCFS Psychotropic Consultation Team. She is responsible for maintaining data from the team and analyzing it for reports. Amber
is currently assisting in the process of transferring the data from the current storage system into a new database. She is also involved in data management for special projects. When needed, Amber also helps report the recommendations from the UIC Consultants to the DCFS Authorized Agents. Amber graduated from the University of Illinois at -Urbana Champaign.
