Music Therapy Sessions


8 East Research Unit- Adult psychiatric, inpatient

Goals:

  • To practice and improve socialization skills

  • To provide a creative outlet for expression

  • To teach relaxation techniques to reduce stress and anxiety

  • To support and encourage engagement in an individualized treatment plan

Community Reintegration- Adult psychiatric, Outpatient

Goals: 

  • To support and improve socialization skills

  • To provide for expression of thoughts and feelings

  • To encourage independent functioning through insight into strengths and needs for treatment

  • To promote the use of relaxation techniques to reduce stress and anxiety

8 East Adolescent- Adolescent psychiatric, Inpatient

Goals:

  • To improve social interaction with peers

  • To improve concentration and impulse control

  • To develop constructive methods of coping with strong emotions

  • To promote creativity and self-expression to facilitate a sense of well-being and a sense of accomplishment

  • To provide age-appropriate, culturally relevant musical experiences

8 West Oncology- Adult, Inpatient

Goals: 

  • To teach relaxation techniques with music for pain management and stress reduction

  • To provide a creative outlet for the expression of feelings, especially about having an illness and the daily effect of such an illness

  • To promote and support family relationships by including family members in sessions

  • To provide a respite from the routine of hospitalization and medical procedures

  • To consult with staff on the use of music for relaxation with patients

5 West Pediatrics - - Inpatient, Group and Individual

  • To facilitate children's adjustment to the hospital environment.

  • To provide distraction from pain and the hospital environment.

  • To improve communication and social skills through group experiences

  • To express feelings related to hospital stay, verbally and non-verbally

  • To provide opportunities for shared experiences and interaction with family members.

5 East Rehabilitation- Adult rehabilitation

Goals:

  • To provide an opportunity for social interaction with other hospitalized adults

  • To support OT/PT/RT goals through music

  • To provide a creative outlet for the expression of feelings, especially in regard to the current need for rehabilitation

  • To teach relaxation techniques to manage pain and reduce stress

4 East Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)

Goals:

  • To provide developmental support following NIDCAP model

  • To meet physiological needs through entrainment

  • To create a positive auditory environment

 

Music therapy services include both group
 and individual sessions.

We are approved by the American Music
Therapy Association as a clinical training site.
