Goals

  • To provide intensive and comprehensive psychiatric services to patients with acute destabilization secondary to a major psychiatric disorder
  • To provide initial assessment with less than a 24 to 48 hour waiting period
  • To provide psychiatric residents with experience in managing high-risk, severely destabilized patients on an outpatient basis

Patient Population

  • Severely destabilized patients in need for intensive outpatient services
  • ACC in lieu of inpatient hospitalization or PHOP
  • Comparison to PHOP: fewer groups, more case management Marketing to Insurers; flexing of inpatient benefits

Services Provided

  • Somatic Treatment (medications and/or ECT)
  • Environmental Assessment and Intervention (case manager home visits)
  • Family Education and Intervention (family assessed for capacity to become an extension of treatment team; education and training provided to assure a safe and supportive home environment)
  • Individual and Group Psychotherapy and Skills Training
  • Referral to Other Levels of Care (PHOP referral, emergent inpatient admission, coordination with present treaters, referral to longer-term outpatient treatment)
