UIC psychiatrist Stevan Weine,
director of the International Center on Human Responses to
Social Catastrophes, will speak on "Reconciling Fear and
Hope since Sept. 11, 2001" at a lunchtime ecumenical
service at the First United Methodist Chicago Temple 77 W.
Washington.
Rev. Ralph Blackman, dean of St. James Episcopal Cathedral, will
also speak at the event, held 12:45p.m. to 1:45p.m.
The program, sponsored by the center in the psychiatry
department, is the first of several planned events in
partnership with Chicago's downtown places of worship and
religious leaders, aimed at Loop working and business community
and the general public.
The monthly programs will explore "the public perception of
urban terrorism and the crucial role of spiritual care and
mental health in the face of urban catastrophes," said
Weine, a specialist in trauma and post-conflict international
mental health.
