Kevin BarnhurstKevin G. Barnhurst (Ph.D., University of Amsterdam), associate head of the UIC Department of Communication, teaches courses in communication theory and media studies. His research measures and documents the political and social consequences of the public information media. His studies have included examinations of media responses to political violence, of historical changes in what defines news, and of the politics of visual imagery. To discover how young and disadvantaged audience members experience the media under different political systems, his comparative research has examined life narratives in the United States, Europe, and Latin America.
