Introduction

With the support of NIMH, we are committed to further enhancing our educational programs by emphasizing training in clinical research. One of the strengths of the training programs in the Department of Psychiatry is their emphasis on evidence-based treatment. For over ten years, training in cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) has been an integral part of the curriculum of both our psychology internship and psychiatry residency training programs. In addition, the department houses a nationally prominent treatment center, the Stress & Anxiety Disorders Clinic(SADC), for treatment and research related to anxiety disorders. This clinic has attracted psychology interns and post-doctoral fellows who are interested in further developing as clinical scientists whose careers place an emphasis on anxiety disorders.  In addition, the SADC faculty provide extensive training in CBT for our psychiatry residents.

All of our trainees received instruction and/or supervision in CBT. The faculty members associated with our anxiety treatment programs, in both the adult and child areas, are highly skilled and have all received post-graduate specialization training in CBT and/or anxiety treatment. In addition to developing the clinical skills of our trainees, we are committed to furthering our trainees’ knowledge with respect to the dialogue between research and evidence based anxiety treatment.
