Dr. Charney is the Medical Director of the Comprehensive Assessment and Treatment Unit, which is an inpatient unit at UIC hospital that treats severely mentally ill adolescents who are in DCFS Custody and who have failed several interventions. She also directs the Child Psychiatry Consult-Liaison service which provides psychiatric evaluations for children and adolescents hospitalized at UIH.
Dr. Charney had her medical training at Yale University School of Medicine in New Haven, CT and completed a combined pediatric/general and child psychiatry residency training at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in Bronx, NY. She had extensive child psychiatry inpatient experience while residing in NY. She has been at UIC since 2003, initially working in consultation liaison as well outpatient clinical and research settings at IJR, prior to her return to hospital based work.
