Clinical The PSADC is committed to education, training, and research in early identification and the promotion of evidence-based prevention, assessment, and treatment strategies for childhood anxiety disorders. Parent education: Parent education is an integral part of individual and group treatment in our clinic. Full-year clinical rotation: Trainees from various disciplines can complete a full-year clinical rotation in our clinic. They learn to work within a multidisciplinary team that utilizes the expertise of different professionals to assist with various aspects of assessment and treatment.
At the beginning of each training year, PSADC senior staff members provide a multi-week training and orientation for new trainees on evidence-informed assessment and treatment of childhood anxiety disorders. Trainees are provided selected readings and are able to observe clinic staff conduct evaluation and treatment sessions before being assigned their own patients. All trainees receive intensive supervision from licensed senior staff throughout their training year. Six-week clinical rotation: Third year medical students are able to participate in a six-week clinical rotation as part of their psychiatry clerkship. Interested medical students may also return for an elective clinical rotation in their fourth year. Full-year research rotation: Trainees from psychiatry and clinical psychology also have the option of completing a full-year research rotation. During the rotation, trainees may elect to engage in a variety of activities that include: manuscript writing, grant-writing, conducting literature reviews, designing research projects, data analysis, and conference presentations. Summer research fellowship: First year medical students can apply for a Jeanne Spurlock Fellowship through the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and spend the summer between their first and second year engaged in a research project in our clinic. Fellows then present their project at the annual conference of the Academy the following Fall. Consultation to outside providers: Outside providers also may arrange consultations with the multidisciplinary team. Formal training activities: Trainees are encouraged to attend Grand Rounds, lectures, and seminars at the UIC Medical Center on childhood anxiety disorders and related topics. |
