He earned his Master of Science in Social Administration with a focus in child and adolescent mental health from Case Western Reserve University in 1999. David has been a Licensed Clinical Social Worker since 2000.

While at UIC, David has performed therapy with children, adolescents and adults, focusing on the treatment of anxiety disorders over the life span. His work with children and adolescents has allowed him to work with various community agencies as well as schools to promote appropriate treatment and services for his patients in these environments. David assists the Pediatric Stress and Anxiety Disorders Clinic in obtaining information needed for ongoing research projects, which are being conducted in the clinic. David is actively involved in providing treatment in the adult Stress and Anxiety Disorders Clinic as well as the adult Obsessive Compulsive Disorders Clinic. In addition to the teaching and supervision he does in the department for various trainees, David has guest lectured at the Jane Addams College of Social Work at UIC and conducted training seminars to outside agencies on
crisis intervention. David contributed a chapter entitled "Consumer Benefits" to the Child and Adolescent Training manual for social workers in community mental health centers around the state of Illinois.
